Brampton News – November 22nd, 2017
At the Peel Start Up Weekend, that happened on Nov 16-18, 2017, I did my first sales pitch in front of an audience of experienced and aspiring entrepreneurs. Although it lasted only one minute, it looks like it took forever! I was nervous, but once I started, I felt very comfortable.
They chose the best 11 pitches, and mine was one of them! Once the finalists were chosen, the teams were formed. The purpose of the teams was to come up with a business plan and scenarios in the real world, that would be presented to a jury of 4 accomplished businessmen. It was kind of a mini Dragons Den!
My team was formed by Vanessa, Caoimbhe, Abena, Kirat, Baiyu (Barry), from Brock University, and myself. We worked very hard over the weekend (from 9am to 9pm!). The best presentation would compete with global teams, for the final prize of $10,000! We came in second, which for me was a great accomplishment! (Thank you team, for the awesome job!)
I learned a lot during this event, not only about my business, but also about team work! I also have to thank Daniel Bishun, business advisor at Brampton Entrepreneur Centre, who encouraged me to take part of this challenge, and who told me that being young is an advantage. I guess he is right, cause people like to see young entrepreneurs and get inspired!
